How much does it cost? Please visit our financial considerations page for specific cost information.

How long can I stay on the J-1 visa? You can stay in the United states on your J-1 Teacher visa for a maximum of five years.

Can I bring my family? Participants may bring a spouse and children under the age of 21 on the J-2 dependent visa.

Can I teach at any school? US Host Schools must be accredited, and at the grade level that you are qualified to teach in your home country. Host Schools may be public, private, or charter.

Can I work part-time instead of full time? No. All J-1 teachers must be full-time (minimum 32 hours per week) teachers of record.

Can I work as a Teacher’s aid or a Teaching assistant? No. All J-1 teachers must be teachers of record.

What subjects can I teach? You may teach any subject that you are qualified to teach?

Do I need to have a bachelor’s degree? Yes, all J-1 Teachers must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or the subject field that they teach.

Once I have ACS sponsorship, how do I get the visa? You will need to attend an interview at a U.S. Embassy. ACS will walk you through this process when the time comes, that’s our job as your sponsor!

What kind of support does ACS provide once I arrive in the United States? As your sponsor, our top priority is your health, safety, and welfare. We will check-in with you on a monthly basis, and are always available via phone or email. You will have access to our 24-hour emergency phone number as well.

Can I travel during my program? Yes. Many teachers choose to go home during the summer break. You must obtain travel authorization from ACS to do so.

How much will I get paid? Your salary will be commensurate with your colleagues of equal qualifications.
